68-2008

A part of the "Jacques Villeglé" retrospective

Sixty years separate Pierre Henry and the young American composer [http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/people/david_coll|David Coll], a recent graduate of the Cursus program.
This double billing offers two creations written in the spirit of Jacques Villeglé's work. A sonorous echo of found objects, shredded elements, of texts or images from an "urban comedy".
In his piece 68, David Coll makes references to the works of Maurice Lemaître and Jacques Villeglé and to the archives of an event that he could not possibly have experienced, but an event whose mythology remains strong today. The baritone has the central role; the "oracle" of Guy Debord or the writer reading l'épître aux Lettristes by Isidore Isou.
Summoning History and stories in favor of an untimely present: this is the very idea of the musical theatre that incarnates the works and poetry of Georges Aperghis.
