Join us on Friday, March 6, for a unique day to explore memory and human rights in Peru through sound and sight at CNMAT. 

Event Name: Counter-Pedagogies of Forgetting

10am – 4pm: Photo Exhibition & Sound Installation Experience Percy Rojas’s "Ausencias Presentes" paired with an immersive sound installation by Brian Cruz (PhD candidate Mathematics/CNMAT). A dialogue between the captured image and the resonance of the past.

 

4pm – 5pm: Before the Memory Fades A deep-dive dialogue featuring our guest speakers. This event will be bilingual (English/Spanish):

  • Karina Pacheco Medrano: An acclaimed writer and anthropologist from Cuzco whose work interweaves memory, human rights, and Andean life.

  • Gisela Ortiz: A prominent human rights activist, former Secretary of Culture of Peru, and Director of Operations at EPAF.

  • Percy Rojas: A historian and photographer who uses data analytics and visual media to document the search for missing persons.

  • Luis Cintora: An award-winning documentary filmmaker dedicated to global human rights projects and the anthropology of violence.

5pm: Trío Chakana Close the day with "Music for Andeans at Heart" featuring Edith Leni, Omar Sepúlveda, and Daniel Zamalloa.
