# Decide where to put it
- To add a new page to the hierarchichal structure of an existing book, go to the node that you want to be "above" your new page and click on "add child page".
- Otherwise, in the list of links underneath your name, click on "Create content", and then select the appropriate item from the list of content types according to what kind of content you want to add. Contact the Administrative Director at CNMAT to gain proper permissions for creating nodes.
# Enter your content
- Fill out the fields in the form. Anything marked with an asterix (*) is required.
- Follow [cnmat:node/2744|CNMAT's Style Guide] in writing the text of your new node.
- The text that you enter into the body of your new node will be interpreted according to one of the site's [cnmat:filter/tips|input formats]. We recommend the [http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax|"Simple Text" aka Markdown] format, but you can also use Filtered HTML or raw HTML.
- You might want to [cnmat:node/2588|add links from the body of your node to other nodes or to outside web pages].
- If you've entered a lot of content into the Body of your new node, you might want to copy all that text and paste it into a text editor just to be safe. (A bug in Drupal and/or your web browser could possibly destroy your work.)
# Preview / Submit / Publish
At the bottom of the form for entering new content you should see buttons labeled "Preview" and "Submit".
- "Preview" means that the site will display your page as it would appear, but it doesn't actually save your new data into the database. You'll generally want to do this to make sure that it looks right before you really put it on the site. Underneath the preview you'll see all the same fields to edit the content of the new node, so you can fix any problems.
- "Submit" means to save the new node. You'll still be able (if you have the right permissions) to edit it later. By default anything you submit will also be "published", meaning that it will be part of the site.
- If you want to [cnmat:node/9773|save your node but not share it], you can (if you have the right permissions) click on "publishing options", and then un-check "publish". Then nobody will be able to find or view your node. You'll only be able to see it again yourself by [cnmat:node/2572|tracking your content].
