Everyone can be involved in the exciting cultural, educational, musical
and technological projects happening at CNMAT in some capacity:

**Opportunities at CNMAT:**

  • Visiting scholars come for several months or years.
Even though they often work on personal research, invariably they participate
in CNMAT's ongoing projects and often start new lines of research that continue
    after their stay.
  • Industry affiliates provide support to
CNMAT and benefit from early notice of research results, access to outstanding
students and participation in a yearly conference.
  • Graduate students have a place to apply research in
their fields to musical ends and exercise teaching or research assistantships.
  • Composers and musicians come both as artists in residence
    and as visiting performers.
  • Undergraduates attend classes taught at the center
which feature state of the art labs optimized for music study. Strong students
may participate in an independent study.

  • **Centers:**

    • Collaborating music centers such as IRCAM and CCRMA and University departments
share research and exchange scholars to pursue common goals.
    • University departments inside and
outside UC system exchange professors and invite CNMAT expertise onto boards
      forming multimedia pursuits.

    • **Events:**

      • The general public attends concerts, seminars and lecture
        series.
      • Conference participants enjoy presentations at conference sites as well
as at CNMAT or at industry locations.
      • Philanthropists , foundations , industries and corporations donate
funds and equipment for building needs, equipment, research, musical projects
        and performances.

      • **Prospective Students:**

        • Although CNMAT is formally a part of the Music Department, it is also
an interdisciplinary research unit linked to five other Departments on Campus.
        • Some of the current research activities are focused on the study of the
perceptual and cognitive aspects of music, the creation of new computer
architectures for synthesis and audio signal processing, and the development
of software for composition and live performance.
        • In order to conduct research on a master's or doctoral thesis at CNMAT,
a student must first be affiliated (i.e. a registered graduate or doctoral
student) with one of the five degree-granting departments associated with
the Center. You may make a formal application to the following admissions
