The Motu 828 is a firewire audio interface, and its firewire cable is routed to the laptop cable cluster. Its primary purpose is to provide 8-channel output from a user's laptop into the studio sound system.

#Driver:

A single driver, available from motu.com, supports all of the Motu firewire audio interface products. Unfortunately, that website requires a login. The application is called "MOTU Audio Installer", and you can find a copy in /TenneyExternal/*Shared to install on your laptop.

#Configuration:

The Motu Audio Setup is an application that configures the state of the Motu 828mk2; if you have the driver installed it should automatically open when the Motu is connected.
##Clock source
- Go to the MOTU Audio Setup application (on your computer) and click on the 828mk2 pane, near the top
- The second menu from the top is Clock Source. It should read "ADAT Optical"
- Both the Optical Input and Optical Output menus should be set to "ADAT"

#Channel Mapping:

The Motu 828mk2 is a 22-channel interface. Channels 1-8 are analog outputs routed to the Fostex-based 8-channel surround system. Channels 15-22 are digital ADAT outputs and routed directly to ADAT Bank C of the [cnmat:node/2816|MOTU 2408]. In order to use this routing, the PCI-424 application on the computer must have Bank C set to "ADAT". This will make the 828 inputs available to audio applications running on the Mac.
