# Training Instructions

Here are 7 objects on the bottom side of each object is a picture of a shape. The shapes may be different types, sizes and colors. You need to arrange the shapes on this board such that the shapes you perceive as similar are close together and those that are different are far apart. You can only look at one shape at a time, but you can look at each shape as many times as necessary. There is no right or wrong answer, the shapes just need to be organized in a way that is logical to you.

# Setting the volume of the stimuli

The screen in front of you will allow you to set the volume for the experiment. When you press the 'Play' button, you will hear a section of music that will repeat as you adjust the level. By pressing the 'Louder' button the volume of the sentence will increase and by pressing the 'Quieter' button the volume of the sound will decrease. Once you have achieved a comfortable level click the 'Done' button and let me know.

# Subjective Space Layout

On the screen in front of you, is a black square with various letters in it. Your job is to arrange the letters in a way similar to what you did with shapes in the previous task but based on what you hear associated with each letter. Each letter corresponds to a type of processing applied to the music. Some of the settings will sound similar where as others may sound different.

Based on what you hear you should use the mouse (or your finger, if using the touch screen) to arrange the letters so that those that sound similar are close together and those that are different are far apart. Try and use as much of the square as possible to arrange the settings.

Press the 'Play' button to begin listening to the music; the music will continue to play as you move the letters around. Each time you move the mouse over a letter a white circle appears to let you know that new processing has occurred. Click on the letter to and then drag the letter through the square to the location you assign. You can listen to each stimulus as many times as you would like. When you are finished please press 'Done' and let me know.

# Subjective Space Navigation

Like before you see a large square on the screen, but this time only one "X" in the middle of square. Use your mouse to move the X throughout the square, as the X is moved the processing of the sentence will also change. Be sure to listen to all areas of the square and then choose the point in the square where the sentence sounds best to you.

Press 'Play' to begin listening to the sentences. Once you have found the place where the sentence sounds best to you leave the X there and press done. Once you have pressed 'Done', please let me know.

You may also press 'Pause' during a session if you need a break and then to resume the navigation press 'Play'.
