In MIC Terminology, a "Category" is an umbrella term under which multiple "Topics" can be placed. Categories appear on the lefthand side of the MIC.

Categories are added using the Vocabulary Manager in the Administer Section of the site. Navigate to the Music Information Vocabulary. Any term that appears under the (confusingly named) "Topics" term is a Category on the MIC page.
