Benoît's wisely chose to focus on the history of the electric guitar with just enough organology to put everyone on the same page
and served to define the electric guitar. His most valuable contribution was to insist that the amplifier was an essential part of the electric guitar for our discussions. This point was expanded on in further presentations as it became clear that the gestures and interactions of the volume knob, tone controls and volume pedal are an essential part of playing the instrument and their role is essential in the electric guitar's identity distinguishing from the acoustic guitar and other instruments.
