Created by CNMAT affiliate artist Claudia Hart with UC Berkeley graduate composer and programmer, Andrew Blanton. Culling from art historical references, they devised a protocol thoroughly described in their statement, using the DALL-E AI system among other things.

Linda Bouchard's Ocular Scores

On March 3, 2023 at 10am CNMAT will host an open lecture/presentation where Linda Bouchard will introduce her custom tool OCULAR SCORES for the creation of graphical notation from the analysis of complex sounds. She has been developing this tool since 2018 as a resident researcher at matralab, Concordia University in Montreal with Joseph Browne, the designer. She will present her work on ocular scores with the participation of Carmine Cella, Jeffrey Lubow and Ellen Ruth Rose.

Hinge Ensemble Residency

The Hinge ensemble will be in residence at CNMAT this spring to work with CNMAT affiliated composers: Eda Er, George Papajohn, Sarah Grace Graves and Kevin Lo. The residency will culminate in a concert at CNMAT on March 25th.

CNMAT welcomes Annette Vande Gorne: Haïkus

Artistic Director of the Brussels International Acousmatic Festival L'Espace du Son, Annette Vande Gorne, professor emeritus at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and Mons, will present a multi-channel acousmatic concert of her electro-acoustic work Complete Haikus (New Year's Day, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) 2016-2020 (57').  The one-hour composition will be diffused in the CNMAT main room in a special multi-channel mix performed live by Annette Vande Gorne.

Cella Honored with IRCAM commission and world premiere

CNMAT’s lead researcher, Carmine-Emanuele Cella's new composition, I am in blood, wil be given a world premiered at IRCAM’s Espace de projection on February 16, 2023.

I am in blood, commissioned by IRCAM, marks a culmination of Calla’s research in and exploration of assisted orchestration which integrates artificial intelligence, spatialization and the augmentation of instruments.
