Throughout the academic year, CNMAT hosts a wide range of public programming that reflects its dual identity as both a research center and a performance venue. Concerts — including a curated annual series alongside performances organized independently by affiliated faculty and students — bring new works to the stage, often blending acoustic performance with live electronics and spatial audio. Twice-yearly the OpenLabs convene artists and researchers to present recent work, open to the public and designed to spark new collaborations. Hands-on workshops and immersion courses, such as those introducing CNMAT's own odot programming environment, train composers and researchers directly in the center's tools. Visiting scholars and practitioners contribute public lectures and extended residencies. CNMAT has also hosted festivals and one-off collaborations, from a UC Berkeley new-music showcase to an international experimental music festival. Nearly all of these events are free and open to the public, extending the center's research and performance practice beyond the university community.
