CNMAT convenes an OpenLab twice a year, a public colloquium designed to showcase current research and to foster new collaborations across music, science, and technology. Each session gathers researchers from the across the University and adjacent sectors in industry. Recent OpenLabs have brought together researchers from UC Berkeley's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, iSchool, and Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, as well as industry researchers form Meta, NVIDIA, Adobe Research, and the MIT Media Lab alongside. Free and open to the public, OpenLab reflects CNMAT's broader commitment to treating research as a public, collaborative practice rather than a closed pursuit — providing composers, artists, engineers, and scholars alike a forum to present recent work.
