Composer, sound artist, improviser /piano, drums, electronics/ Enabled by the pandemic, social VR has taken a giant leap forward. Traditionally, artists have been some of the early adopters of new technologies and this medium is no exception. To celebrate the light at the end of the tunnel, HYPHEN-HUB is showcasing four creators working on social VR platforms. These pioneering artists will discuss the elements that led them through their creative process and how this platform enabled them to push their artistic boundaries and explore new models of creativity. OpenLabs are open events where CNMAT's life and projects can be shared with the community. Each OpenLab is made by a series of 4 quick talks (10 mins + 5 mins questions) for 1hr total. The general idea of these talks is to provide an overview of the current activities at CNMAT to foster collaborations and develop ideas. For this session (link below): Berkeley graduate composer Andrew Blanton's work ANTIPHON will open as a part of the NewArt.City Festival on Monday, March 22nd , 2021, with online performances at 7 pm and 8 pm. The work is a real-time interactive installation and performance space. Assistant Professor Carmine Cella has been invited to present at the symposium Fukushima 10 years, organized by the University of California, Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National laboratory. Professor Cella's talk will focus on how art and music can transform such dramatic events into creative processes. More information below.
