ICMC 2025

The 2025 International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) has concluded in Boston, MA hosted by Northeastern University, New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Emerson College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This year's conference was dedicated to the memory of David Wessel, ICMC's founder and CNMAT's director from 1987-2014. The conference was hosted and chaired by CNMAT alum Anthony DeRitis (Prof. Music, Northeastern University).

Helen and Thomas WU Performance Hall Opens for CNMAT Concerts

CNMAT is thrilled to have been part of the design and implementation of the newly inaugurated Wu Performance Hall in the Department of Music at Morrison Hall.  With the support of Meyer Sound, Wu Hall is an ideal space for CNMAT's future concerts in the Department of Music. This project was made possible with several donors including the generous support of Laurie Wu McClain and Chuck McClain (pictured, lower right, with CNMAT Co-Director Edmund Campion.)

CNMAT at 2025 APS Global Summit

On March 21, 2025, Jeremy Wagner gave a presentation as an invited speaker to the Joint March and April Meeting: Global Physics Summit 2025 of the American Physical Society (APS).  He was invited to present in the "Physics for Everyone" session of the Materials Physics track on the topic of "Physics & Music". Jeremy gave a brief historical overview of past and present projects at CNMAT that have significantly leveraged physics in the service of new music.

2025 CNMAT Users Group (CUG) Residency: collective lovemusic

Bio: lovemusic was founded in 2018 by Adam Starkie and Emiliano Gavito in Strasbourg, a new music hub in the heart of Europe. The collective takes its name from the eponymous work by Betsy Jolas, which was the starting point of their musical collaboration. They began by creating a new music concert series at the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire de Strasbourg, which became the epicentre of experimentation for the collective, inviting composers and musicians to create new music presented in various formats.

Marco Pavin, Guitarist and Composer, Sat., Nov. 16, CNMAT, 8 p.m.

ABOUT MARCO PAVIN - guitarist and composer

Born in Padua (Italy), he began studying guitar at a young age, graduating in 1987 from the Conservatory of Padua. In 1991 he also obtained a degree in physics.

As a classical guitarist he attended advanced courses with Betho Davezac and David Russell. and since 1988 has undertaken international concert activity both as a soloist and in ensembles.

Bacchetto/Sabey Duo, Friday, Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m., CNMAT

Bacchetto/Sabey Duo is a collaborative project of San Francisco based composer/performers Nick Bacchetto and Ben Sabey. The duo creates new spatial audio works for piano and interactive electronics with a custom modular analog synthesizer controlled by a MIDI Polyphonic Expression instrument (Eurorack, Melbourne Instruments Nina, Roli Seaboard). They also perform a transcription of Messiaen’s “Feuillets inédits” (originally for piano and Ondes Martenot).
