As part of CNMAT’s OpenLab series, the first meeting of the machine learning and music working group will convene this Thursday, November 9, from 4-5:30 pm at CNMAT (1750 Arch Street). The purpose of the group is to bring together those who are working on research and/or artistic projects that relate to music and machine learning. This is an open meeting in which all are welcome to join.
On December 19, 2021, and as part of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players 2021-22 season’s in the COMMUNITY offerings, SFCMP presented works hailing from UC Berkeley’s Center for New Music and Audio Technologies.
An evening of spontaneous music by three master improvisers. Electro-acoustic composer/improviser, educator, Zeena Parkins is a pioneer of contemporary harp practices. Using expanded techniques, object preparations, and electronic processing she has re-defined the instrument’s capacities. Concurrently, Parkins self-designed a series of one-of-a kind electric instruments. She leans into the harp’s physical limitations pushing its boundaries and impossibilities.
Synthetic Body-reality an online digital art exhibition presented by MEET Digital Culture Center and Fondazione CARIPLO (MILAN) runs from February 25, 2021 to March 25, 2021, and features the virtual installation Alice Inside - 2021 (link to exhibition) by Artist and CNMAT affiliate, Claudia Hart, with music by CNMAT Director, Edmund Campion. It is my great pleasure to announce the release today on Chant Records of a new recording of duo improvisations, Voicescapes, by the wonderful Danish singer Randi Pontoppidan and myself. Recorded on the beautiful island of Møn, Denmark in 2018 with no preconceived musical material, no overdubs and no sound sources other than voices, Voicescapes documents the spontaneous music of two kindred souls.
