Long Distance Duet

It was a long-distance duet — a violist on Faculty Glade and a carillonist (UC Berkeley Carillonist, Jeff Davis) in the towering Campanile. They couldn’t see or communicate with each other, but their Thursday noontime concert, part of a music department course called Music Now, was a successful exercise in performing across a large space.

LECTURER POOL – Music Technology and Music Perception – Department of Music

The Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach any of the following areas:

Music and technology involving CNMAT technologies and Max/MSP programming.

Special topic courses involving software programming for musical applications of computers.

Music courses focusing on music perception and cognition.

Music appreciation courses with an emphasis on music software and lab-based learning.

The Music Department offers these courses as a series every year as part of the elective undergraduate curriculum. Qualified candidates may be eligible to teach more than one of these courses. Responsibilities include classroom teaching, holding office hours, grading class assignments, directing final projects and classroom performances.

BCDI and 158A/B

CNMAT and the Department of Music are excited to have their two new cornerstone courses in Music and Technology included in the new BCDI!   The two new courses, Music 158A (Sound and Music Computing with CNMAT Technologies) and Music 158B (Situated Instrument Design for Musical Expression), were developed with grant support from the Digital Humanities at Berkeley.  The new course development grants provided the opportunity for CNMAT to further integrate its 25-year legacy of research and digital tool development into the life of the University.

CNMAT presents our intensive and immersive summer workshops

Max/MSP/Jitter Day+Night School: July 23-27, 2012, 10AM-9PM
- This intensive week of hands-on classes covers a wide variety of topics related to Max/MSP programming and will make use of the latest features of Max 6.

Jitter Night School: July 30-August 3, 2012, 6-9 PM
- Jitter is an extension to Max that allows flexible generation and manipulation of video, matrix, and 3D graphics data
